The Loulou Lollipop Waffle Pom Pom Hat in Coconut Milk is a soft TENCEL™ Lyocell baby beanie with a waffle-knit texture and a small finishing pom on top — built to be gentle on newborn scalps without leaving the elastic-mark forehead crease that thicker hats produce.

Waffle-knit TENCEL™ Lyocell with spandex for stretch and a snug fit that doesn't pinch. The waffle texture adds visual depth and small additional air pockets for warmth — useful for newborn temperature regulation, which is poor for the first six to eight weeks.

Why TENCEL™ Lyocell instead of standard bamboo rayon? TENCEL™ wicks moisture about 50% more efficiently than standard bamboo rayon, so fewer damp wake-ups and fewer mid-meal regret outfits. It also holds softness through hundreds of wash cycles, where bamboo rayon starts to pill. Closed-loop manufacturing recycles the water and the solvent — a real sustainability claim, not greenwashing.

For a hat that sits against the most sensitive skin on a newborn's body, the moisture-wicking matters: babies get sweaty heads fast, and a damp hat trapped against the scalp is what causes the rash parents misidentify as cradle cap. TENCEL™ breathes, releases moisture, and dries faster.

Cut and fit: Sized for newborn through approximately 12 months. The stretch knit conforms to head shape without elastic-banding the forehead. The pom is sewn through the crown stitch, not glued — won't pull off, doesn't have any choke-risk components.

The print: Coconut Milk is a Loulou Lollipop original. Conceived in Vancouver, never licensed. The pom is a tonal match to the base color.

When to use: Indoors in air-conditioned rooms (newborns lose heat fastest through the head), outdoors in cool weather, and for hospital-bag or going-home outfits. Not intended for sleep — per AAP guidelines, no hats in cribs.

Coordinated nursery: Pair with the matching Waffle Long Sleeve Bodysuit, Waffle Sleeper, and Waffle Sleep Bag for a fully coordinated newborn outfit + sleep set. Loulou's coordinated wardrobe is the differentiator — sleep-only brands can't deliver a matched first-photo outfit.

Certifications:

  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified facility
  • CPSC and CPSIA compliant
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell produced in a closed-loop process that recycles water and solvents
  • Designed in Canada by a Certified B Corp

Care: Machine wash cold (mesh bag recommended), tumble dry low. Don't bleach. The waffle knit holds shape across hundreds of washes without pilling — important for a piece that gets washed often (spit-up, drool, the inevitable diaper-change misfire).

Loulou's TENCEL™ position, plain English: Most "bamboo" baby hats are bamboo rayon, which loses softness fast. TENCEL™ Lyocell is the next-generation TENCEL™ process from the same fiber family — softer and more durable, made with closed-loop manufacturing. A small retail premium for a fabric difference that newborn skin actually feels.

A clean piece for hospital bags, going-home outfits, newborn photography sessions, and the first-photo album. Pairs gift-ready with a matching waffle sleeper for the full TENCEL™ wardrobe.

Common use cases:

  • Hospital exit photos
  • Cold-weather strollers and outdoor walks (newborns lose heat through the head fastest)
  • Newborn photography sessions — the waffle texture and pom photograph beautifully
  • Baby shower gift add-on alongside a coordinated bodysuit and bandana bib

Why the waffle finish on a hat specifically: Smooth-knit beanies look like fabric. Waffle knit reads as texture in photos and gives newborn heads a small additional air pocket of warmth without bulk.
