Baby Straw Cup – Llama
Tassels on the headstall. Andean caravan energy.
A silicone straw cup in Llama — cream llama with cocoa accents and tassels. Weighted straw inside that follows liquid as the cup tilts. Sealed lid. Bridge product between bottle and open cup, sized for 9 months and up. Recognized by Mothers Always Right as Best Silicone Baby Tableware (2026).
The weighted straw — what it actually does
Inside the cup, the straw attaches to a small silicone weight. When the cup tilts (which it will, constantly), the weight rolls to the lowest point. The straw follows. The kid always gets liquid, not air — even when the cup is nearly empty and held at a sharp angle.
Lid and seal
The lid snaps on with a sealed flange. The straw retracts into a sealed valve when not in use. Right-side up, the cup is reliably sealed. Upside-down storage is not the design intent — expect drops over time.

Frequently asked
What age to introduce? Most pediatricians say 6–9 months. Some kids take to the straw immediately; others need a week of demonstration.
Straw cup vs. sippy cup? Most pediatric recommendations have shifted toward straw cups — the sucking motion to draw liquid up a straw builds patterns closer to open-cup drinking than the bottle-like motion on a sippy spout.
Can I put it in a stroller cup holder right-side up? Yes — the silicone sleeve grips most cup holders. The sealed lid handles typical movement.
How do I replace the straw? Replacement straws are stocked in the Loulou Lollipop accessories range — straw pulls out and a new one slides in.
The lid design and seal behavior
The lid snaps onto the cup with a sealed flange that requires moderate force to close — secure enough that a one-year-old usually can't pull it off, openable enough for an adult one-handed. The straw retracts into a sealed valve when the lid is closed and not in use, which is what makes the cup viable in a diaper bag.
Seal behavior at different orientations: upright in a stroller cup holder, sealed indefinitely. Tilted on its side in a backpack, sealed for several hours with minimal leakage. Inverted (lid-down) in a bag, expect a few drops over an hour and more over a day. The cup is leak-resistant by design, not leak-proof; leak-proof straw cups exist but their straws are usually too restrictive for liquids to flow at the rate a thirsty toddler needs.
The grip texture and drop survivability
The silicone sleeve has a soft-grip texture molded into the exterior — small ridges that fit a 9-month-old palm without slipping. Important during the months when grip strength is the limiting factor on cup use. The Cup With Straw Llama character is sculpted into the silicone, not printed on, so the texture survives daily wear.
Drop survivability: the silicone sleeve absorbs the impact of a typical high-chair drop or a kitchen-floor toss. The interior plastic cup is rigid but won't shatter at toddler-throw velocities. Replacement parts (straws, lids) are stocked separately in the Loulou Lollipop accessories range — meaning the cup body usually outlives the straw by 6-12 months.
How it fits into the bottle-to-cup transition
Most pediatricians recommend starting the transition from bottle to open cup between 6 and 12 months, with the straw cup as the recommended intermediate. The reason: the sucking motion to draw liquid up a straw builds oral-motor patterns closer to open-cup drinking than the bottle-style suckling motion on a sippy spout. Some dental organizations now advise against extended sippy-cup use for the same reason.
Practical sequencing: introduce the straw cup at 6-9 months alongside the bottle. By 12 months, the straw cup should be the primary daytime drink container. Open cups (with spills) start around 12 months at the table. Sport-style cups and water bottles take over by age 3-4.
